
The Canada Greener Homes Grant is a Federal Government program to help homeowners make their homes more energy-efficient.
Buildings, including homes, account for 18% of Canada’s greenhouse gas emissions. The program helps homeowners invest in improvements to their homes that will lower emissions.
These home improvements include; geothermal systems, solar panels, heat pumps, water heaters and thermostats.
Get up to $5,600 in Grants
- Get up to $600 for a home evaluation so you can begin to plan your retrofits.
- Get up to $5,000 to make approved upgrades to your home.
- Homeowners can undertake multiple projects. The maximum grant available is $5,000.
Geothermal Rebates
- Install an new qualifying geothermal system and receive a $5,000 grant.
- Replace your existing geothermal heat pump and receive a $3,000 grant.
Heat Pump Grants
- Install a cold climate air source heat pump (Zuba Central) in your ducted heating and cooling system and receive a $5,000 grant.
- Install a 3 head cold climate ductless split system and receive a $4,000 grant.
- Install a 2 head cold climate ductless split system and receive a $2,500 grant.
Solar Grants
- Up to $5,000 grant if you install solar panels on your roof
Water Heater Grants
- Get a $1,000 grant when you install a heat pump water heater.
Thermostat Grants
- Get a $50 grant when you install a programmable thermostat.
5 Steps for Getting Your Grant:
1 - Are you eliglible?
2 - Register and book your pre-retrofit evaluation.
3 - Plan and complete retrofits.
After you receive the EnerGuide evaluation in the portal from your energy advisor, you may review the recommendations for your home retrofits and decide which retrofits work best for your budget and renovation plans.
You will need to complete at least one retrofit that is both eligible and recommended by your energy advisor. You can find your home’s recommendations in your Renovations Upgrade Report and on the online portal.
4 - Book your post-retrofit evaluation.
Once you have completed your home retrofits, you can start the reimbursement process. To be reimbursed, you need to book your post-retrofit evaluation and submit all your required documents online or by mail.
5 - Receive your grant.
Before your reimbursement is finalized, you will need to confirm your grant total in the portal. This is the last step before you receive your cheque.
You Need to Register to Participate
The program provides up to 700,000 grants worth up to $5000. You can either register online or by phone.
Once you register, the first step is for an energy advisor to visit your home. The EnerGuide evaluation provides you expert advice on what retrofits make the most sense for your home.
