Net metering is a simple way to save money on your electricity bill by generating your own renewable energy. It allows you to use the electricity generated by your solar panel system, to power your home or business and send any excess electricity back to the grid. This excess electricity is then credited to your account and can be used to offset the cost of any electricity you need to purchase from the grid.
To be eligible for net metering, you must be generating renewable energy primarily for your own use and have a net metering agreement with your hydro company. You will also need to apply to have your renewable energy system connected to the grid and meet any technical, safety, and inspection requirements set by your utility.
It’s a good idea to check with your hydro company to confirm your eligibility and ensure that your system can be connected before making any investments or arrangements. Therefore, before The Hayter Group gets to any agreements with the hydro companies, we always perform a capacity check to see if they can accept the additional power.
You have a few options when it comes to obtaining a renewable energy system for net metering. You can buy it outright, lease it, or finance it through the Canadian Government’s Greener Homes Loan Program.
Once your solar system has been installed, final close out inspections from your municipality (building permit), safety inspection with the Electrical Safety Authority (ESA), as well as our own comprehensive quality control inspection needs to be completed before we can power up your system. Once your hydro company gives the green light, we can power up and you start generating power.
To sum it up, net metering is a great way to save money on your electricity bill and do your part for the environment by generating your own renewable energy. Want to learn more about net metering and see if it’s right for you? Follow the link to complete our assessment form.
