School Project – “Going Off The Grid”

Matt McLean of The Hayter Group was recently contacted by Grade 5 & 6 students from Waterloo, Ontario about a very forward looking school project. Here’s their request:

“Our names are Jovan and Ethan and we are grade 5 and 6 students at Mary Johnston Public School. We are doing a project called “Going off the Grid”! We are researching solar energy and trying to find out how much it would cost to get solar energy at our school. We’ve done some research on the internet but are having difficulty finding out how much solar panels cost and how many we would need for our school. Can you help us with finding out this information. Also, do you have any brochures that would be good for us to look at? We will eventually be building a model of our school with solar panels on the roof of it. We can hardly wait!”

This is the model the students produced showing how much of their roof would have to be covered in solar to offset all of their electricity. Congratulation kids for a job well done!
